Break The Form
Humans recognize and learn about the forms we see in the world through imitation, such as through origami and painting to depict the shapes of the objects we see. It is also the nature of the world that accidental traces and the fragmentary destruction are more processual and unpredictable than established forms. I wanted to experience the realisation of this process and the beauty of abstraction after this 'loss of absolute form'. Therefore, I folded some shapes of objects with rice paper, and then painted the details of the shapes of each object on them. The forms are then destroyed by burning them with a candle, and because of the unpredictability of the burning flame, these accidental traces and the residual colours of the painting end up giving me a new aesthetic experience. This process from ‘figurative’ to ‘abstract’ reflects the nature of all things.
